As we can see from the previous lecture "Common steel bar problems at construction sites", many issues are caused by steel bar connections. So, what is the correct way to connect steel bars?
01. Binding steel bar joint connection
Binding connection is a common method used in the process of steel bar joint connection. It involves overlapping the steel bars first and then using binding wire to tie the steel bars at the overlap position to connect the two steel bars together. Generally, when using this method, the overlap length between the two steel bars is relatively long, which leads to serious waste of steel bars, increased use of steel bars, and higher project costs. Additionally, the connection between steel bars through binding is not stable and reliable. However, the binding steel bar joint connection method has a faster construction speed and a simple construction process.
02. Welding steel bar joint connection
Welding connection is a very common method in the process of steel bar joint connection. It is achieved by butting the steel bars or overlapping a small amount of steel bars and then using a welding machine to weld the two steel bars together to form a whole. Generally speaking, when welding steel bar joints, a short steel bar about 30 to 50 centimeters long needs to be tied at the joint of the two butted steel bars before welding them together. It is worth mentioning that there are many welding methods for steel bar joints, which can adapt to spot welding or full welding methods. Moreover, this kind of steel bar joint connection method has a very fast construction speed, and the connection between the steel bars is also quite strong. However, it requires workers with welding experience to complete it.
03. Mechanical steel bar joint connection
Mechanical connection is also a method for connecting steel bar joints. It is a way of connecting the ends of two steel bars together through a straight threaded sleeve. Currently, the mechanical steel bar joint connection method is the main method for connecting steel cages during construction because this method has high requirements for the centering of the main bars when connecting steel bars. The mechanical steel bar joint connection method has a very fast construction speed, saves materials significantly, and is very helpful for saving construction costs.
